Then there is the nuanced stuff, like being sure your activity steps actually create the outputs of your process, using role names consistently, and taking a big picture look to make sure that once analyzed, the process actually MATTERS. That means you have 2 steps and combining steps leads to ambiguity. ✅ Avoid "and" when it's separating 2 or more verbs. It often makes it unclear who is doing what. ✅ Please, please, please avoid PASSIVE voice. ✅ Be sure to clarify when the process starts and when it ends, and use this to scope your analysis and guide any discussions. ✅ The most important thing you can do is clarify the NAME of your process (see the guidelines in the template below). ✅ A workflow diagram IS NOT all there is to analyze a business process. I'm more than happy to recommend other BRD examples, but first I realized I had a lot of questions. (We teach a lot of the components that go into a typical BRD, but not how to create a BRD directly, as this type of document is becoming increasingly uncommon.) Our participant is looking for a BRD template, and that's not something we teach directly. I felt like such an imposter for a moment! My very first question in our new community for The Business Analyst Blueprint training program was one I couldn't answer.
