I own about a half dozen air rifles and a couple of air pistols, I've never owned a crossbow but I have owned and enjoyed several recurve and wheeled bows (compounds), my air guns are all quite capable of harvesting small edible game, my recurve bows are certainly capable of harvesting larger deer size game.Īs I see it both would be a valuable asset in a survival foraging situation, a crossbow pistol with a maximum velocity of a couple of hundred feet per second would be very limiting as to range, power, and game hunted, not something I would waste my time and money on, or my life for that matter.Īt the risk of raising eyebrows among the archers on this forum I have to say that conventional hunting bows are accurate, powerful, and quite capable of taking just about any game animal in North America, but, as a long term game getter unless you are making your own arrows and strings, or have the money and storage available to stock pile years worth of arrows or bolts and bow strings, they may not be the wisest choice for most people prepping for the worst.
